Georgia Mental Health Access in Pediatrics

Georgia Mental Health Access in Pediatrics (GMAP) Programis a HRSA funded pediatric mental healthcare access cooperative agreement aimed at coordinating increased access to pediatric mental health services, especially in underserved communities, through telehealth-based health integration in pediatric primary care in Georgia. Implemented in 2021, the GMAP program supports pediatric primary care providers’ ability to assess, treat, and refer children with behavioral health needs. A series of virtual trainings, support resources, and consultation services gives pediatric primary care providers the tools necessary to serve children and families in need of behavioral health support.

The Office of Children, Young Adults and Families (OCYF) at DBHDD is responsible for Georgia’s System of Care (SOC) and children and families who are accessing the public behavioral health system. OCYF has partnered with Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, the Georgia Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics (in collaboration with Augusta University, Medical College of Georgia and Children’s Hospital of Georgia), and the Center of Excellence at Georgia State University to implement this program.

In effort to expand GMAP’s resources beyond primary care providers, GMAP has developed training opportunities for community health professionals, further expanding access to resources related to youth mental and behavioral health statewide for all community health professionals.
